#OWNYOURSTORY

Umm-e-Kulsoom has lived a life of difficulty. She lost her parents, her husband, has no kids, no formal education, and for the longest time, she felt like she had no purpose in life. While her brothers supported her, she increasingly felt like she was an undue burden on them and their families. Thus, when the opportunity came knocking, Kulsoom says she decided she would make something of her life. And that is exactly what she did.

Umm-e-Kulsoom joined Kaarvan Crafts Foundation after a friend informed her about the trainings being offered. She signed up for the entrepreneurial trainings and after the completion of her training, became a Sales Agent. Through her work, she learned how to sell clothes, create demand for her products and sustain her market linkages. Learning the ropes of being an entrepreneur also made Umm-e-Kulsoom see what her strengths were.

Today, Umm-e-Kulsoom is a self-sufficient woman who no longer feels helpless. Instead, she has become a voice of strength for all the home-based workers she is engaged with. With her work, not only has she become a financially sustainable individual, she is also using her platform for creating work opportunities for the women around her. Gone is the woman who felt like she had no purpose in life; Umm-e-Kulsoom is empowerment personified, and there is nothing that is holding her back.
