Rubana is a 32-year-old who lives not only with her husband but also his other wife. It was with her that she came to collect her toolkit. Rubana tells us that together they have 6 children, but her husband is unable to provide for them; he has a severe liver condition. She says they desperately need a steady source of income because he needs an operation that will cost Rs. 20,000.
She used to feel unable to help as she is from a poor family that could not even provide her with a dowry. Matters deteriorated to such an extent that she had to take her 10-year-old son out of school and get him trained as a stitcher. She divulges that he still cries about not being able to go to school like other children.
However, she saw a chance for herself when she found about Kaarvan. Despite the fact that her mother-in-law leveled accusations at her for joining the training course and gossiped about her whereabouts, she stood her ground and not only completed the course but also convinced other women around her to participate.
Now she wishes to start her own business with the material provided to her. She has already spoken to someone who supplies stitched clothes to the market and is eager to make enough money so they can stop relying on relatives for survival.
